I have been working with Josh for over a year. His recall for details is unmatched and he has practical ideas for coping with life's challenges! One of my favorite questions he asked me is "Can you be present without trying to change anything?" Oh such good advice for all of us. I would highly recommend Josh.

Josh helped me through a transitional time after divorce and been a valuable counselor in helping me keep my head on straight as I began dating again. He has a non-formal way of approaching therapy and uses humor and storytelling in a way that illustrates his points and keeps me on track and my mind set on maintaining boundaries, listening to myself and headed toward what I really want in my life.

More about Joshua

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina with 9 years of experience working as a therapist. I have worked with clients of various ages and circumstances with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, anger management, and motivation. I also helped many people who have experienced trauma and individuals with chronic pain. I take a holistic approach to treatment taking into consideration physical health, spiritual health or values, relationships and emotional/mental/behavioral health.

People sometimes get into a pattern of thoughts or behaviors that cause them to feel stuck in life. Our work together will be making deliberate attempts to make a change in your viewpoints, thoughts, feelings, or behavior leading to solutions to your concerns. We will build on your strengths in the change process and help you develop small steps to take to make the changes you desire. You can view this experience like a person panning for gold in a river who finds occasional flecks of gold in their pan. After several pieces of gold are found, you have enough gold to form a nugget. Each small step you take will be like a fleck of gold that will add up to valuable change in your life. Our work together will be helping you develop the skills necessary to resolve not only your current concerns but also prepare you to manage other concerns in the future. It does not have to take years of therapy to see a difference in your life. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused Therapy to help you make the changes you want in life.

Our work together will be much different than talking to your friends or family. I will be able to give you unbiased, nonjudgmental feedback and support. It is important for you to be honest with yourself and me so that we can have the most effective experience together. I am sure your expectation of therapy is to feel better and get help with your concerns. My expectation is for you to work on the steps or changes we agree would be helpful between sessions. I am here to help and support you but I can’t do the work for you. You will not be alone on this journey of change.

Change can feel scary but it doesn't have to be difficult. If you are ready to start making changes, I'm here to help empower and support you as well as give you the tools for change.

I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

I have always had female therapists. After a recent move to NC I decided to change the variable and get a man's perspective and it has been great working with Josh! I have been navigating some changes - job change, relationship change, and also a geography change and Josh has been a great coach in helping me be true to myself and also patient. We have talked through some hard stuff and hard moments and he is helping me create a new pathway for my thoughts. He also has a great sense of humor which is a crucial element for me as I am working on taking everything in stride, doing what makes sense and living an all around lighter life!

Josh Sheets has been my current therapist for a little over a year, on and off, and has always been there when I need him. He's been there for when I need an hear to hear what I am experiencing and he is fully able to respond with questions that lead me with a higher perspective of what I'm experiencing. I will recommend this therapist to others in need.

Josh is a great listener. Understands family dynamics and birth order and helping me reframe my mindset/patterns.

It’s been a couple of months since I started working with Josh. I had always wanted some consistency since I’d never had more than a couple of sessions trying therapy in the past. Josh has given me that consistency and more. He is very supportive, comforting, and encourages self-inquiry often. One of my favorite things about his practice is that he checks up on you during the week to see how you’re going with your goals and sends articles that might be helpful. It’s truly comforting especially when the journey gets a little hard. We’ve both noticed positive shifts in my mindset. Even my partner and best friend have noticed, mentioning that I’ve started speaking out about my needs and goals very differently. I can’t thank Josh enough!

After around 4 months of therapy, I think I'm ready and equipped with the skills to move on to the next stage of my life. I was hurt. I was broken and I was losing hope in my life. Thanks to Josh and his work, I'm able to walk out from the trauma that haunted me for years and able to cope with things I couldn't in the past. I am so grateful that I have this great counselor. He listens and remembers those details I talked about. I could never make this progress without his help. Thank you so much Josh for all your work which is life-changing to me. I'm really thankful for meeting you and really glad that I can move on. Blessings.

Josh is fantastic at his job and has taken an approach I wasn’t expecting, but all of his methods are effective and direct, which is exactly what I needed

Reviewed June 2019

I was very miserable and completely lost with the way to think of life. I had all these ideas about fixing things in my life but no-one seemed to value my opinions. People who surround me said I expect too much out of life. Like my ideas were not helpful and I offered those because they were convenient for me alone. Talking to Josh made me realize that I'm constantly surrounding myself with people who are breaker downers, whereas I'm a builder upper myself. And all this time I thought I was mental. I was made to think I'm mental. But Josh showed me I'm completely normal. And reasonable. And in just two weeks of sharing fragments of my life with him, I feel like I got my life back. I have my confidence back. I'm less cranky, and I don't take harsh things/remarks to heart as seriously as I used to before. Thank you so much Josh Sheets. You may think you didnt do much for me, you only read my stories and gave me reviews, but with that, you changed the way I look at my life. I'm not a victim, I'm a participant of life. And you made me realize I should act accordingly. People say you have to pave your own path in life. You showed me HOW TO pave a path that'll lead to happiness and contentment. Thank you.
