So grateful for Stephen. He has been an insightful, kind and supportive therapist as I walked through grief and also began to unpack years of conversion therapy.

Hello! First of all, I'd like to acknowledge the bravery it takes to open up to someone else. It's important to find a therapist who is a good fit for you, and I'm hoping that the following information is helpful in making that choice. If you'd like to know more, you are welcome to contact me with questions!

I am fully licensed by the state of Texas as a licensed professional counselor, and hold a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Early in my career, I worked at Cedar Crest Hospital and Residential Treatment Center, where I served clients dealing with mental health disorders, substance addictions, hallucinations, and severe trauma. I also worked at SafeHaven of Tarrant County, where for five years I served families who had experienced physical, emotional, or sexual violence. I have since worked in both private practice and non-profit settings, where I have supported my clients through a wide variety of presenting issues, including: depression, anxiety, anger, parenting concerns, relationship issues, poor self-image, stress management, PTSD, chronic pain, grief, domestic abuse, LGBTQIA+ issues, and more. My unique background has helped me to establish a practice that is empowering, collaborative, and trauma-informed.

I am grateful for every client that I see, and I especially enjoy working with underdogs—people who have a hard time finding a place to belong, who are lonely or marginalized for whatever reason. I also deeply appreciate clients who are doing the hard work of navigating changes in identity, community, or spirituality.

I would describe my counseling style as patient, compassionate, and open. Even though I am the therapist, I see each of my clients as the experts in their own lives, and I seek to learn from my clients' experiences and build on their strengths while offering my own perspective. I will never force you to do anything you are not ready to do, nor talk about anything you are not ready to talk about—but I will offer challenges that I think will help you grow more into the best version of yourself, and I will work from a realistic understanding of the hard work that long-lasting personal changes require.

Online counseling allows you to receive care from a mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.

Stephen Eller is--and I cannot express this enough--an exceptional therapist. Despite having seen numerous therapists in the past, I feel like I didn't really know what therapy even *was* until I found Stephen. Like, this is what people are talking about when they say therapy can actually help you, heal you, and increase your quality of life for the long term. His insights usually feel like clarity, sometimes they feel like an epiphany, and I often noodle on our sessions for a long while afterward. Honestly don't pay Stephen *enough* for his help and I count my lucky stars to have a therapist with as much patience, perceptiveness, and engagement as Stephen.

After years of searching, Stephen Eller is by far my favorite therapist I’ve ever had. I truly feel like he understands and I never feel a hint of judgement from him. He explains things in a way that I can understand and I very much appreciate that. 10/10 would recommend!

Stephen is an incredible counselor. He has always made me feel so comfortable without any pressure to share anything until I was ready. He has consistently asked me intellectual questions that make me perceive my circumstances in a completely different way. I highly recommend Stephen as a counselor for anyone dealing with anxiety or depression (and probably many other things). His answers and responses are not standard to a circumstance, he really evaluates all of the details to an individual.

Very interested in helping me out. I feel comfortable in being able to speak with him and he's not judgmental at all with my problems. All around good guy

Wholeness and compassion are the two words that come to mind and my two biggest takeaways from the time I've spent in sessions with Stephen and I don't know anyone who wouldn't benefit from more of those two things. He holds a safe and empathetic space for you to share and feel through whatever you need to without judgment. He offers insights that you can carry with you and revisit after when you need them again. His questions and feedback offer a gentler and more effective way of navigating and integrating the more universally unpleasant sides of being human in an unintrusive manner. In a culture where we are so focused on eradicating, escaping, masking and curing our problems, his approach is perhaps more challenging but equally refreshing. If you're ready to make that commitment to yourself, I would recommend him!

Reviewed June 2019

Stephen Eller not only sets the standard when it comes to counselors, but he exceeds it. I always look forward to my sessions with Stephen. He not only listens and empathizes, but he sincerely cares to help. He's flexible with his counseling methods, and always seems to find the perfect metaphor or analogy to encapsulate what I share with him. I hold onto these after our sessions are over and continue to come back to them throughout my day. He asks the right questions, which always give clarity and perspective on how I'm feeling. I felt comfortable sharing some of the deepest feelings with Stephen pretty early on, and so I think that says a lot about him as a counselor.
